In this procedure, a small, hollow silicone band is placed around the upper part of the stomach. The band is filled with saline, with the amount adjusted to meet the needs of each individual. A port connected to the band allows for post-surgical adjustments as the patient’s needs change.
The least invasive option, this procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis, and can be reversed. While the initial weight loss will not occur as rapidly as with a gastric bypass, long-term results tend to be similar to other procedures. Regular follow-ups help each patient achieve optimum results.
