Occupational Health and Wellness

The health and well-being of the work force has become important to corporate America. This is a broad field. It extends from the main office with how well a job description is written and if it includes the physical demands of a job to how well those demands are measured. St. Alexius offers several services lead by experts in the field of occupational health.

Annual Evaluations

  • Annual Medical Evaluations - Respirator
  • Annual Asbestos Medical Examiners

Ergonomic Initiative
St. Alexius Medical Center is proud to offer on-site ergonomic assistance to North Dakota employers through the Workforce Safety & Insurance Ergonomic Initiative Loss Control Program. The purpose of the program is to decrease or eliminate ergonomic-related injuries at the workplace.

Health Risk Assessment (HRA)
Quantifying health status is a matter of assessing an individual's current health behaviors and identifying possible risk factors for disease and other health conditions. The Health Risk Assessment is a simple questionnaire that asks employees about their current health status and lifestyle behaviors. The HRA is available online to your employees through a secure internet site. Your employees' responses are confidential.

Medical Evaluations
Comprehensive medical programs can be customized for your facility to offer the type of medical care needed. We can partner with you to be your designated medical provider, spending time to understand your company and your unique business needs. Our providers are able to evaluate an injured worker promptly to ensure safety and prevent delays in returning to work. Evaluations include: hearing tests, DOT physicals, pulmonary function testing, respiratory fit test certification, international travel vaccinations and physicals, ECG testing, annual asbestos medical examinations and free work injury screenings.

Medical Providers
All of our facilities provide a unique network of medical, occupational health and wellness-related services to any employer located in the central/western regions of North Dakota. They are: St. Alexius Medical Center, Garrison Memorial Hospital, Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital and the associated clinics of Washburn, Garrison and the St. Alexius clinics of Mandan and Minot. Hospital-based services are available through St. Alexius, Garrison and/or Turtle Lake. They include: emergency care, lab services, respiratory therapy, education, primary care, physical therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services and education, radiology services, occupational therapy and telemedicine. Clinical-based services are available in Bismarck, Washburn, Garrison, Mandan and Minot. These clinics provide a wide variety of medical and nursing services.

Pre-Employment Screenings
This program consists of pre-employment physicals, such as DOT physicals, drug testing and job-function evaluations. It gives the employer the opportunity to make good decisions and evaluate the physical abilities of their employees.

Sleep Wellness Program
The Sleep Wellness Program helps employees learn about sleep disorders and sleep hygiene and obtain tools to get a good night's sleep. This is helpful if the employee also is receiving a screening for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Our registered respiratory therapists and registered sleep technicians educate employees regarding fatigue management. This program is especially helpful for Over the Road (OTR) drivers and shift workers. A fatigue management plan can be devised for each employee.

Substance Screenings
Department of Transportation Drug Testing is intended to assist the employer with provisions of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. St. Alexius' Occupational Health and Wellness Program offers drug testing and screenings to ensure the safety of your workers.

Wellness Screenings
The goal of the health screening is to alert employees of a health risk that might otherwise go undetected. They include: wellness screenings, vascular screenings, obstructive sleep apnea screenings, PSA screenings and educational presentations.
