Children's Health

St. Alexius' children's health services provide care to infants and children and support for their families. Our in-patient care complements the pediatric primary care and specialty services available through The Clinics of St. Alexius and Mid Dakota Clinic.

St. Alexius Medical Center and its PrimeCare partners are committed to providing excellent care for children from birth to 18 years of age. Our Children's Center has 13 beds; nine of which beds are reserved for general pediatric services and four in the Children's Critical Care Center. St. Alexius' Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for critically-ill newborns has 24 full-service beds. Staff includes three board-certified neonatologists and several board-certified pediatricians ready to provide care to your child.

Our children's unit is supported by a wide variety of other specialists in treating child illness which include: critical care, endocrinology, gastroenterology, allergy/pulmonology, cardiology, hematology, oncology, neurology, psychiatry, psychology, orthopedics, nephrology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neuropsychology, rheumatology, infectious disease, ophthalmology, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), urology, neurosurgery, trauma surgery, PALS (pediatric advanced life support) certified nursing staff and doctors of pharmacy. We also work closely with the Asthma Clinic and the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic.

Programs to address children's needs include: apnea evaluation and follow-up, developmental and school problems (ADD/ADHD/Autism), diabetic education and resources to address eating disorders. St. Alexius also provides physical, occupational and speech therapy both inpatient and outpatient, as well as respiratory therapists, certified orthotists and prosthetists, social workers and nutrition specialists.
