He then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. During that time he was a first-aid physician for the Kansas City Royals organization. During his last year of residency he also served as chief resident and his orthopaedic research project won a national poster competition in 2010.

Following residency training, Dr. Juelson completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at The Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, FL. He worked side-by-side with renowned sports surgeons Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Leon Paulos. During fellowship Dr. Juelson worked on a daily basis with high school, collegiate, and professional athletes from around the world. A large volume of injured NFL players and major league baseball players elect to receive care at The Andrews Institute. Dr. Juelson also gained extensive experience in both non-operative and operative management of orthopaedic sports injuries at all levels. He served as a team physician to the University of West Florida national championship baseball team, University of Auburn national championship football team, Washington High School football, Gulf Coast Community College, and Gulf Breeze High School football.

When surgery is necessary, Dr. Juelson often utilizes minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques. This approach may reduce post-operative recovery time and allows an early return to work and play. Dr. Juelson’s surgical interests include arthroscopic and open treatment of the shoulder, elbow, knee and ankle. He also has additional training in meniscus transplants, articular cartilage repair (ACI certified), and hip arthroscopy.

Dr. Juelson enjoys educating others about orthopaedic sports surgery and is involved with the University of North Dakota School of Medicine in helping with medical student education.
