Finkielman, Javier – MD

Dr. Javier Finkielman is an intensivist who works primarily in the St. Alexius intensive Care Unit (ICU). An Intensivist is a physician trained specifically in the care of critically ill patients, who spends all or the majority of their time exclusively in the intensive care unit.

Dr. Finkielman graduated from the Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires, Universidad de Buenos Aires and earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Facultad de Medicina, Universidad de Buenos Aires in Argentina. Finkielman completed a residency in internal medicine at the Instituto de Investigaciones Alfredo Lanari, Facultad de Medicina, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. He also completed fellowships in critical care and renal transplantation at the Hospital de Clinicas Jose de San Martin, Facultad de Medicina, Universidad de Buenos Aires and critical care at the Catedra de Medicina Critica, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, and the Universidad Catolica Argentina in Argentina.

Dr. Finkielman then completed further training in internal medicine at Michael Reese Hospital, University of Illinois at Chicago and a residency in internal medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. During his fellowship in critical care at Mayo, Finkielman received the Critical Care Academic Clinician Award in 2003 and 2004 and the Critical Care Academic Research Award in 2004. While at Mayo he also served as an instructor in medicine at the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn. He is married with children and enjoys singing chamber and opera music, traveling and reading.
