Kohl’s has opened its doors in Bismarck, and is partnering with St. Alexius Medical Center to support area children’s health initiatives. Throughout the year, Kohl’s sells special “Kohl’s Cares for Kids” merchandise with 100% of the net profits from the sale of those items to benefit health and educational opportunities in the communities it serves. The items are $5 each and are Peanuts’ characters plush toys and books.
Kohl’s corporate headquarters contacted Rodger Wetzel, St. Alexius Foundation Director, to ask about the services we provide and the activities we sponsor in the community. He discussed with them our inpatient services for infants/children; our Community events for children- such as “Summer Fun & Safety Day,” “Fun & Health Day,” and the “Healing Hearts”bereavement camp; as well as our involvement in many community task forces/coalitions benefitting children.
As a result, Kohl’s selected St. Alexius to be its children’s hospital charity in Bismarck. St. Alexius Medical Center will receive proceeds from the special books and stuffed animals sold in the store and from mini-grants for special projects. Kohl’s will also provide volunteer staff assistance with the Medical Center’s children’s projects. When you purchase “Kohl’s Cares for Kids” merchandise, the proceeds will come to the St. Alexius Foundation to be used towards the programs we provide for the children of our community and region. The Women’s and Children’s Services department, under the direction of Jody Benz, will work with Kohl’s in providing children’s heath-related activities. St. Alexius is honored to be chosen for this community service.
