Vitamins – Not a Bad Stocking Stuffer
Chances are you don’t expect coal in your stocking at Christmas this year. You also probably aren’t expecting a bottle of vitamins, but vitamins are one of the healthiest things you can give.
A recent study has shown that failing to take in enough vitamins and minerals can cause DNA and mitochondrial damage. Insufficient supplies of vitamins and minerals can damage cells the same way that radiation does, making cells appear as though they have been irradiated. This damage can cause premature aging and also lead to cancer and other diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Of course, problems such as this can be prevented by simply taking a multivitamin pill every day.
But vitamins and minerals don’t have to be taken for preventative reasons alone. They have also been proven to correct many deficiencies. The benefits are bountiful, and surprisingly, they are inexpensive as well. Daily multivitamin and mineral supplements cost around $25 a year, but the effects of taking a multivitamin every day can last a lifetime.
Starting children on vitamins at a young age can prevent and/or correct many mild nutritional deficiencies, and there have also been reports that children who take vitamins perform better on IQ scores. Multivitamins also boost immune functioning and reduce infections. They lower the risk of heart disease and cancer and slash the risk of cataracts. Most importantly, they help our bodies function normal and healthy, improving cell efficiency and discouraging disease.
Aside from Vitamins A, B, C, D and E, some of the most important vitamins our bodies need include folic acid, essential fatty oils, iron and zinc. All of which can be found at Great Plains Health Company in the Gateway Mall, Bismarck, and all of which fit perfectly in any Christmas stocking. If you have questions of concerns about vitamins, St. Alexius encourages you to make an appointment with one of our nurse practitioners at the Center For Integrated Medicine, also located at the Gateway Mall.
