Michael Brown, MD, PhD
Dr. Michael Brown joined the staff at the Heart & Lung Clinic in July 2000. He is a specialist in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, with special interests in the surgical treatment of thoracic cancers, palmar hydrosis (sweaty palms), beating heart surgery, heart valve repair and surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation. A native of Scranton, N.D., Dr. Brown received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine from University of North Dakota. He spent an additional two years conducting research in the field of diabetes and received the National Young Scientists Training Program, M.D., Ph.D. Scholarship and earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. After five years of general surgery residency training at University of Hawaii, Dr. Brown then completed a three-year residency in cardiothoracic surgery at University of Iowa. He serves as an assistant professor of surgery at University of North Dakota School of Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Fellow of American College of Surgeons, active in the Army National Guard Medical Corps and is a combat veteran of Iraqi Freedom. He is licensed in North Dakota and certified by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Brown has been nationally recognized by the American Heart Association for his research in the field of cardiovascular diseases. He has published a number of scientific papers in the field of diabetes and heart disease.
