Frappier Figure Skating

Frappier Figure Skating

The Frappier Figure Skating Acceleration Program is designed to enhance overall proprioceptive awareness, increase strength and lower extremity flexibility, increase endurance and anaerobic tolerance, and enhance neuromuscular recruitment of specific musculature associate, with each specific jump or spin technique.

The program is eight weeks, each week consists of:

    • Two treadmill sessions, encompassing forward and backward treadmill runs
    • One plyometric session
    • One jump-specific plyometric session
    • Two strength training sessions
    • Flexibility work

    Treadmill Sessions
The forward and backward treadmill runs are designed to increase the athlete’s power, explosiveness, speed and anaerobic tolerance. The Super Treadmill has a top speed of 28 miles per hour, and can create a 40 percent incline.

    Plyometric Sessions
Plyometrics are explosive movements designed to develop body awareness, coordination, agility, lateral and diagonal movements, balance, and lower body strength.

    Jump-Specific Plyometric Session
These specialized training sessions are designed to enhance neuromuscular recruitment of specific musculature associated with each jump or spin technique. The jump plyometrics are performed on 2”, 4”, and 6” boxes. The athlete jumps off of one foot – forward or backward – depending on the take-off position for the specific jumps.

    Strength Training Session
An individualized strength program is developed for each athlete. All strength training will be done at recommended percentages of a pretest 1-Rep Max test to ensure bone and soft tissue safety for all young athletes. Each athlete’s progress is monitored by our trained staff to ensure maximum results.

The goals of the program are to enhance the athletic ability of the participants. The high demands of strength, endurance, power, balance, flexibility and coordination are unique to the sport of figure skating. It is the Human Performance Center’s goal to help each athlete realize their potential and be able to experience the joy of competition and success.
