TERMINAL COMPETENCIES:

  1. provide a high level of radiation protection for patient, self, and others.
  2. understand the processor mechanically and chemically.
  3. process, duplicate, and subtract radiographs.
  4. demonstrate knowledge of human anatomy and physiology as they relate to radiography
  5. demonstrate knowledge of human pathology and how it affects theradiographic image and exposure factors
  6. demonstrate knowledge of proper lifting and transport techniques
  7. effectively operate radiographic imaging equipment within the guidelines of safety
  8. knowledgeably use accessory patient restraint and comfort devices for the patient’s safety and radiation protection
  9. effectively position the patient and radiographic equipment to achieve a diagnostic radiographic examination or procedure
  10. demonstrate initiative in modifying routine procedures to accommodate for patient ‘s condition, limitations in equipment, and other variables.
  11. demonstrate and utilize appropriate exposure factors to obtain diagnostic quality radiographs with minimum patient radiation exposure
  12. adapt changes in exposure factors for various patient conditions, equipment, accessories, and contrast media while maintaining appropriate radiographic quality
  13. recognize emergency patient conditions and institute correct procedures for administering to them
  14. immediately recognize the symptoms of cardiac arrest and to initiate C.P.R.
  15. critique radiographs concerning positioning, image quality, and medico-legal aspects


Upon completion of the program, the graduate should be able to:

  1. understand and proficiently use oral and written medical communication
  2. perform basic and advanced mathematical functions as required in the curriculum
  3. provide the patient with care and comfort, always respecting privacy and modesty
  4. operate equipment within the manufacturer’s limitations of safety
  5. recognize equipment malfunctions, and report the malfunction to the Chief Technologist and describe the problems to the service man
  6. demonstrate initiative in dealing with the day to day operation of the Radiology Department
