Program Description

The program will start at the beginning

of either the spring, summer or fall semester. The program length will be

either three or four semesters, depending on a predetermined need in

the service area.

The program is dedicated

to high standards and quality instruction provided by a team

of Paramedics, Nurses, Physicians,

and other health care professionals. The program

exceeds the standards set by the U.S. Department of Transportation and

has been approved by the North Dakota Department of Health, Division

of Emergency Health Services. The program prepares the student for the

National Registry written and

practical examinations.

Program Goal

Our goal is to ensure quality education

and to prepare students to become competent entry-level EMT-Paramedic

practitioners.

Accreditation

The program is nationally accredited by

the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Bismarck State College is accredited by the Commission on Institutions

of Higher Education of the North

Central Association of Colleges and Schools. St. Alexius is accredited

Clinical experiences will be completed

around the student’s classroom schedule. We recognize the needs in rural communities and therefore,

selected clinical experiences may be completed at local community

hospitals, with the approval of the local hospital administrator

and the program director.

Field Internship

Program

Field Internship experiences will also

be completed around the student’s classroom schedule. One-half of the

field internship program will be completed prior to completion of the

core curriculum and the other half after completion of the core

curriculum. The student will be assigned

one preceptor during the field internship experiences. Field

Internship experiences will be completed at Metro Area Ambulance
