Occupational Therapy Helps People Regain Strength and Skills – Story as seen on the Under the Arch Segment on KXMB CBS12

Posted on 11/3/2003

Every day, people develop illnesses or suffer injuries which keep them from carrying out daily activities. Occupational Therapy helps those people regain strength and re-learn skills to perform once again to the best of their abilities.

Occupational Therapists like Karen Gayton at St. Alexius help people with repetitive injuries, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and chronic pain…just to name a few.

“An example of successful occupational therapy technique is myofascial release. It’s a gentle, hands-on technique that relieves chronic neck and back pain, migraine headaches, jaw pain, fibromyalgia, and whiplash by working with the soft tissues,” states Gayton. When a patient takes an active role in his or her own recovery in sessions and at home, occupational therapy can relieve pain in all areas of the body.
