HealthGrades® is a unique award-winning quality information service that accurately and objectively grades the performance of U.S. healthcare providers. HealthGrades® mission is to provide patients and their families with comparative healthcare information, so that they can make well-informed choices when faced with difficult decisions.
Also in 2003, HealthGrades® data shows that St. Alexius Medical Center achieved 5-star ratings in a number of areas. Hospitals are awarded 5-star (best), 3-star (average) or 1-star (poor) ratings based on Medicare data. HealthGrades® latest analyses, released in September 2002, is based on data collected from 1991 through 2001 by the federal government’s Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
“The analysis produces a report card rating for performance of hospitals, based on the patient population of each individual facility,” says Sarah Loughran, Senior Vice President of HealthGrades®. “By comparing actual outcomes such as mortality or complications against what is expected, we can provide an accurate apples-to-apples comparison of providers.”
