Posted on 10/11/2004

The St. Alexius Telecare Network celebrates Telehealth Awareness month every October. The Network has many activities planned throughout the month some of which will be for fun and others for education.

What is Telemedicine and how can you benefit?

Telemedicine is a service that links specialists in the St. Alexius Medical Center community using two-way “live” television.

  • Keeps patients in their own communities for health care when feasible.
  • Provides specialty care services to rural areas.
  • Allows immobile or elderly patients the ability to stay within their own community for healthcare.
  • Reduces the amount of travel time and the cost for providers, family members and patients.
  • Provides education for healthcare providers, staff and surrounding communities.
  • Provides continuing professional education for rural healthcare providers.
  • Strengthens the rural economy by keeping the flow of financial resources in the local communities.
  • Enhances the continuity of care.
