The St. Alexius board of directors announced today that Andrew Wilson of Atlanta, Ga., will be the medical center’s new president/chief executive officer (CEO) beginning Jan. 1, 2006.
Wilson is currently president and executive director of Synergy at Saint Joseph’s, Inc., a joint venture between Synergy Healthcare, LLC, which is a 425-member physician-owned limited liability corporation, and Saint Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta.
Before joining Synergy, Wilson was president and CEO of HealthStar Network, Inc., a healthcare consulting company in Saginaw, Mich., and senior vice president of the 365-bed Saginaw General Hospital.
Wilson has a B.A. in communications from Michigan State University in Lansing, and an M.B.A. from Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, Mich. He has served on the National Leapfrog Hospital Standards Survey Review Committee, the Georgia Healthcare Leadership Council, the Dow Chemical Company Healthcare Advisory Panel, the Michigan State Senate Health Policy Task Group on Managed Care, and the Michigan House of Representatives Health Care Reform Advisory Committee.
He is a native of Saginaw, Mich., is married to Barbara Wilson, a clinical nurse specialist in oncology, and has a teenage daughter, Devan.
The St. Alexius board of directors’ search committee conducted a nationwide search for this key position.
“The search committee required three main abilities from candidates considered for the CEO position,” said Sister Susan Berger, St. Alexius board president. “The main abilities included effectively continuing to carry out our mission of receiving all as Christ, strengthening the medical center’s relationships with physicians, and building on our regional and national reputation for high-quality medical care.”
Chuck Reichert, St. Alexius board chair, led the search committee. “We were fortunate to have had a field of many excellent candidates to choose from,” Reichert said. He added that the committee ultimately chose Wilson because “his high energy and drive will lead us to the next level of excellence, he has an admirable record of professional accomplishments, and his background includes building strong relationships with physicians.”
“This position attracted me because the medical center’s core values reflect my own,” Wilson said. “I believe my background in hospital operations, with expertise and leadership in quality improvement activities, along with my track record in working collaboratively with physicians will enable me to continue and improve on the world-class medical services St. Alexius already offers.”
Wilson said the first thing on his agenda when he begins work is to “gather input from those who are integral to the future success of St. Alexius Medical Center.”
He succeeds Richard Tschider, who is retiring as CEO at the end of the year.
St. Alexius Medical Center is a 304-bed hospital founded in 1885 and sponsored by the Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery. The medical center is a founding member of the PrimeCare health group, along with Mid-Dakota Clinic, St. Alexius Heart and Lung Clinic, The Bone and Joint Center, and affiliated area physicians.
