April 23-29: Cover the Uninsured Week
Posted on 4/24/2007
Statistics show that approximately 10% of residents in Burleigh and Morton counties are uninsured. Nationally, that number is even higher. However, the uninsured are not the unemployed. They are working for small businesses, where employees do not receive health benefits or the benefits are too costly, or they are self-employed.
St. Alexius Medical Center has established a Burleigh/Morton task-force that has representatives from public and private providers and health-related organizations at the local and state levels. It is chaired by Rodger Wetzel, Director of Community Health, Eldercare and Foundation at St. Alexius Medical Center.
This task force has identified local organizations that do provide help to the uninsured. Those organizations include Medicaid, Health Steps, Prescription Connection, Caring for Children Program, Bridging the Dental Gap, Joanne’s Clinic, Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health, Custer Health, Women’s Way and West Central Human Service Center. For more information about what services are available for the uninsured please contact St. Alexius Community Health or any of the mentioned organizations for a brochure.
