Mark Teague’s letter-writing dog is current star of Kohl’s Cares for Kids® merchandise program

Kohl’s customers can now delve into the colorfully illustrated and hilarious world of award-winning author-illustrator Mark Teague’s letter-writing dog, Ike LaRue, while helping children nationwide. Tales of LaRue’s detective work and experiences at obedience school will be sold along with coordinating canine plush in Kohl’s stores nationwide during May and June. LaRue books and plush are just $5 dollars each and 100 percent of the net profits benefit children’s health and education initiatives nationwide.

Locally, Kohl’s partners with St. Alexius Medical Center. Over the past year, Kohl’s Cares for Kids® has given more than $4,000 in support for Children’s Fun and Health Day.

“Mark Teague is a talented illustrator and humorous author and we’re thrilled to have him as a Kohl’s Cares for Kids partner,” said Julie Gardner, Kohl’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “Partnering with such great authors allows us to generate much-needed funding for children’s hospitals and education nationwide.”

Teague’s books, “Dear Mrs. LaRue, Letters from Obedience School” and “Detective LaRue, Letters from the Investigation,” both published by Scholastic Press, will be available for a limited time only in store and online at www.kohls.com

“As a children’s author, it feels great to know your books are entertaining kids and making a difference at the same time – what Kohl’s is doing for kids nationwide is truly remarkable,” said Teague.

Through 2006, Kohl’s Cares for Kids has raised more than $85 million to benefit partners such as St. Alexius. In addition, the Kohl’s Cares for Kids program features fundraising gift cards for local schools and non-profit youth groups; the Kohl’s Kids Who Careâ Scholarship Program, which recognizes kids who contribute to their communities through volunteerism; and an associate program to encourage volunteerism and provide grants to non-profit organizations.
