A way to help a friend may be right under your nose. Megan Lowry tells us how one group of friends is itching to help. After his co-worker, Margo, was injured in a motorcycle accident, Cody Chathums knew he wanted to do something to help.
(Cody Chathums, St. Alexius ICU Nurse): “She is one greatest people I’ve ever met. She is a very good friend of ours, and when this happened, we knew we had to do something to help her out.”
He’s growing a mustache for Margo, and he’s not the only one. All of the male nurses on St. A’s Intensive care unit have ditched their razors too.
(Cody): “Everybody laughed, but most of the guys jumped on board right away because it gave them a reason to grow a mustasche.”
The rules are simple: You can have chops, handle bars or even add a design … just as long as your chin is clear.
(Cody): “There are some guys that are struggling pretty bad, and we do encourage making fun of one another.”
They have one month to grow a mustache, and for each day, sponsors are donating one dollar.
(Cody): “This is our way of supporting her and supporting one another.”
(Carol Preskey, St. Alexius ICU Director): “It’s been a wonderful team effort, and we are really proud of what the guys are doing.”
And while all the nurses can’t participate, the women are having their own fun.
(Carol): “We get to be part of the judging group.”
At the end of the month, the guys will be judged not only on their fullness but also their creativity.
(Cody): “I’ve got some pretty stiff competition.”
Margo’s kids will also get a chance to judge each mustache. They are hoping to raise more than 2- thousand dollars.
